Overview |
|
| The SEIKO Precision Time Server TS-2540 provides highly accurate time Information over standard TCP/IP network protocols. The precise time information Is received from the Atomic clocks inside the GPS satellites and during times of Non reception the synchronization is done via a highly accurate SEIKO quartz time base. |

TS-2540 |
|
The SEIKO Precision Time Server TS-2540, the 6th generation SEIKO time server product, is configured and designed for highly accurate time synchronization down to +/- 1 millisecond (msec) and ease of use in Computer networks with up to thousands of clients. By utilizing the built-in 12-channel GPS receiver, every visible satellite can be tracked and used for time synchronization. The internal SEIKO Precision Quartz Oscillator will keep the accurate time in case of a satellite signal loss and within an accuracy of +/- 10 milliseconds per day.
The TS-2540 provides an internal web interface for easy setup through the network and via the browser, Reliable and secure network synchronization technology by combining multi-port, high-speed/high Capacity network interfaces and versatile GPS timing receiver technology. It supports a wide range of Protocols including IPv4 and IPv6 for seamless integration into your existing and future networks. The TS-2540 has two dedicated and physically isolated 10/100 Base-T Ethernet ports - each with its own Processor - providing the flexibility of using independent ports for secure network maintenance and NTP timing functionality. Automatic leap second and daylight savings time adjustment is user selectable. |

Introduction |

- What is Time Server?
- Why the systems need network timekeeping?

 |
1/ what is time server? |
|
Time Server is:
- Precision time resource of closed network.
- Using NTP3/4 synchronize computers.
- Getting UTC from GPS.
- Easy operation for setting and installation.
You can keep the time of all computers into constant range of accuracy automatically. |
|
| |
 |
2. Why the systems need timekeeping? |
|
With poor timekeeping
- You have a risk of data loss.
- Scheduled applications don't work sometimes.
- Some security holes may exist in your system.
- You couldn't make correct digital signature.
As the result of these troubles you have a risk that you lost credibility in the market place. |
|
| |
 |
2-1. Data loss |
|
In these situation data loss may be occur with poor timekeeping.
- Use document management engines.
- Use the distributed database at web site.
- Use network file system in the Groupware.
- Use software development system
|

2-2. System doesn't work well |
|
Scheduled applications and relative tasks don't work well in a following situation.
1/ some applications run on the event that will be occurred from the schedule of other machines.
2/ in the distributed computing environment, some tasks run at other machines are relative each other. |

 |
2-3. Security Hole |
|
| If you do time synchronization through internet, it means you open the “hole” at your firewall. |
|
| |
 |
2-4. Digital signature |
|
- If you would like to raise a security level of your company you should take the digital signature and digital time stamp into your systems. And it is necessary to synchronize all computer time.
- Almost digital signatures have a short validity. So you must check the expiration date every time you accept digital signature.
- For the same reason you must be careful at "time" if you use private CA and publish digital signatures.
- If you want to prove that the document has not been tampered with.
- When document was tamped.
- You should use digital time stamp synchronized with UTC.

3/ About TS-2540 |
|
Precision Time
- Time source is GPS
- Generally 4 GPS are necessary to synchronize time with GPS.
- But TS-2540 can do it with only 1 GPS if you set the latitude and longitude and altitude of your location. Accuracy is within 1msec.
- Accuracy is within 1msec.
- TS-2540 synchronizes automatically and maximum correction error is only 1msec.
- Built-IN clock accuracy is 10ms.
- If TS-2540 couldn’t catch GPS it still keeps 10msec accuracy per day.
|
Reliability
- TS-2540 doesn't have moving part except cooling fan. Reliability is quiet high.
- MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure)
- TS-2540 33,500 hours
- Antenna 156,200 hours
- TS-2540 has 2 Ethernet port.
- SIer can design reliable and creditable redundancy system.
